We went to see Derren Brown at the Adelphi Theatre in London last night and although we are sworn to secrecy about the happenings of the evening, we can tell you that it was fan-bloody-tastic! I’ve been a huge fan of Derren Brown’s work for a few years now, and I have to admit It wasn’t my favourite of his shows but it was still filled with moments of “WHAT?! how the hell did he do that?!” and “Damn, he’s looking rather handsome tonight” ahem…I may be going off-topic here. Anyway, there were plenty of jaw-droppingly super moments in the show which left us baffled and he definitely didn’t disappoint.
It was quite surreal seeing him live, I’ve seen every one of his shows and I have a few of his DVD’s but I still awoke this morning asking myself “Did I seriously see Derren Brown last night?”. He has brilliant stage presence and he made the audience burst into laughter throughout the night. As always, Derren Brown participated with the audience as much as possible in the show to ensure that no stooges or plants were used – Unfortunately none of us had the opportunity to take part in one of his tricks and I have already promised myself that I’ll practice my frisbee catching techniques in preparation for the next time he tours.
One thing that could have possibly made the show better could have been to perform one of his more ‘extreme’ tricks. For example, In ‘Something Wicked This Way Comes’ – Brown toyed with the assumption of pain being subjective and he gave off the illusion that he stopped breathing, which then allowed him to walk and lay on hundreds of pieces of broken glass without feeling a thing – Umm..WOW?! I don’t think the word ‘amazing’ sufficiently decribes this trick. Nevertheless, ‘Enigma’ still proves that Derren Brown is a complete genius and a wonderful showman and I can’t wait until his new Channel 4 programme!
